Sunrise

On Sunday morning I enjoy easing into my day around 7 am. As the sun wakes up and streaks yellows, oranges, and the occasional prism of colors in the clouds, I begin to feel one with the universe. As the light warms the oak tree canopies I begin to hear the sound of song birds in the distance. The first to share her delight with life is the mockingbird. She has a strong vibrant whistle that can sing a variety of tunes. Next are the blue jays with loud joyous calls, while their babies are tweeting softly. The doves circle around the feeding tray softly cooing, (yes, I’m guilty of feeding the birds. Is it ethical? It brings me joy, is that selfish? Is it bad to change the natural way of things? Leave a comment below) That’s a topic for another day.


Sometimes I’m blessed with the high pitch, yet strong song from a cardinal, or a family of black birds, that hack and cough to scare others away, it’s kinda funny. Woodpeckers that knock, knock, knock their heads against a tree, then sneek in to the free breakfast tray when no one is looking.


Some days I may throw out some old bread crumbs, and on those days 10 to 20 crows will flock to my oak tree tops. Then after a few minutes of scouting the area, they will swoop down enmass each one flying directly to his piece of bread. It is an amazing display of organized nature at work. It is awesome watching them perform this precision dance as a collective group.


On my most blessed days a Cooper’s hawk will disrupt the entire scene buzzing in, trying to pick one of the birds off as they enjoy breakfast. The hawk misses its first attack, which seems to be more of a reconnaissance mission, and will then perch high on one of the trees. Here it can observe the action below. However the second the hawk shows up, all other wildlife vanishes. One second nature having a breakfast fiesta, the next only the hawk remains.

Mental strength.


Rumor has it that many cultures view having a hawk in your life as a good omen. I view it as a strong sign that God, the universe, Source, nature is on my side, and bringing me strength. It doesn’t matter if that’s true or not. As long as I believe it, it is making me stronger mentally. As this display of strength only happens sporadically, I see it as the universe giving me strength when I need it most.

Take time to embrace nature.


My connection to nature is what keeps me going in a positive direction. We all need a way to get through our daily lives without going insane. With work, families, friends, bills, etc. when do you find time to reconnect with who you really are? Do you ever stop to “smell the roses?” If you are searching for a way to keep your body and mind balanced, take a minute and enjoy the natural world around you. If you are looking for answers to your life’s questions, pay attention to the bird that just flew by, or the fly that just keeps sitting on your shoulder. Maybe, just maybe the universe has your back, and is trying to point you in the direction of least resistance to achieving your dreams.
The next time you experience a crow, cawing non-stop loudly outside of your window, take a second to reflect on the possibilities that nature is trying to help you, then show gratitude by saying thank you for the experience. Whether it’s real or not, you will feel better, and mentally you will be stronger because nature is on your side. You will feel as if you have a partner in life. Rewriting your story

     Another great secret to a positive happy life, is to clear out negative feelings from your past. All of those stories contain the emotions that you felt at the time. Your brain has stored every emotion you have ever had. All the stories from your past, both the good and the not so good, have been recorded in your subconscious mind, and all of those emotions are still directing your life today. Are you being guided by past negativity that continues to play out in the present, and will steer your future as well? Or, is your past emotional library filled with happiness, gratitude, learning, growing and abundance? Your past emotions are sometimes buried beneath a lot of garbage. You will have to throw out some of the garbage you’ve allowed yourself to believe if you want to rewrite your history in positivity. You probably don’t view your life story as all roses and unicorns, so in order to be absolutely filled with consistent happiness, you have to find the good in ALL past experiences. We’ve all had days, or even years where things were tough. Maybe you lost a job, or your house. Maybe you feel a family member did you wrong and you can’t forgive them. Maybe you have had a loved one pass away. These can all be devastating to our present lives. The fact that we have all lived through tough times should comfort you knowing that you are not alone. Every human being has been hit by tough times, and most of us get through it just fine. Those that know that life has to change for the better, and plan their recovery, will get through the challenges with ease. The most successful people will accept the setback, and then plan their comeback. You can overcome any negative feelings that you have ever had, and if you want to be consistently happy you must learn how to do this. 

     Only you have the power to rewrite your story the way you want it to be told. That’s very exciting and should have you jumping up and down doing a happy dance. You should be floating on air because you know that you are in total control of your life, past, present and future, and you control how you want to perceive it all. I know you can do this because I know you have the confidence to overcome all negativity because today… you are here reading this book, and things are about to get a lot better for your life! 

    The simple truth is that you must find the good out of every experience in your past. You need to look back through your life and replay every single memory with a happy ending. For example; your parents left you when you were eight years old, sending you to foster care. This devastated you, it has made you feel unloved your whole life, and you are still blaming every challenge you face on that experience. Now when you replay your life you realize that because of this perceived misfortune, you met your best friend in foster care, and you both are still best friends today. Certainly losing our parents at a young age would be devastating. Many people would see that as an excuse for giving up, or accepting mediocrity. However when you focus on what was the happy ending, and realize that the adversity made you stronger, and allowed you to find your best friend, the whole experience changes into a positive life adventure. In this example you found your life long friend because of the loss you experienced. If you shift your perception of events this becomes a very lucky event that changed your life for the best.    

     Another example could be that a girl or guy broke your heart in ninth grade. So now you don’t get close to anyone, and this makes you feel very lonely. Now as you reverse the loss into a found, you realize that if you didn’t break up with that partner, you wouldn’t have gone to college where you met your business partner, and now you’re both worth millions. 

     You really need to look back and see every moment of your life as having a positive outcome. Sometimes these memories have been buried for years, and we don’t want to bring them to the surface. They are scary, they may make you face fears you don’t even know you have. But in order to re-imagine your life, and create the happiness effect that will last, you will need to be fearless, face past perceived negative experiences, and replay them in a positive way until you can actually feel joy when you think about them. The only way to reach a completely happy and balanced life is to view your life as lucky, happy, positive and abundant. Earlier we talked about the fact that we tend to be what we believe, or that we are what we think we are. This is excellent news because after you spend some time rewriting your life history with an only positive twist, you will begin to wonder why you saw some events as horribly negative. Yes, they were challenging, but you have overcome them with determined positivity. 

    As you rewrite more of your life stories, you will begin to connect the dots that make up your life picture. When you start replaying life as a positive journey, you will see that the perceived negative experiences created a learning environment, allowing you to grow, be a more confident and stronger person. The saying “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger” is true. Every single experience, no matter how bad you feel it was, made you a better person.

     As you practice more, and really try to experience your past life as a happy, good, growing experience you will begin feeling a sense of joy, optimism and happiness everyday. Because you will begin to expect happiness and growth because that’s how your life has always been. The better you can get at this mental shift, the more consistently happy your life will become. You will be amazed at how you are able to look back at everyday in your past and see how it really was ALL GOOD. If your life has been all good, then you will be confident that your life will always be, all good. As the happiness effect takes hold, you will begin to see more happy experiences and more abundance show up in your life. It is like magic. Your new outlook and positive happy mindset will bring you abundance without any other effort on your part, that is so cool!

    Many of you may feel overwhelmed at the thought of changing a family members death into a positive experience. I agree that it sounds daunting. However as you begin shifting to a happiness mindset on a daily basis, you will become more experienced, and comfortable replaying past events in the same way. Like everything in life, it takes a little patience and daily intentional practice.  

     One good way to begin seeing the positive side of things while increasing your gratitude towards life, is to daily use a “gratitude charm”. You simply need to find a rock, a pin, or some talisman to hold at night before going to bed. I use a polished rock that was in the bucket I grew my first turmeric in. While holding your “gratitude charm” replaying the events of the day, and saying thank you for all the good that happened that day. You can say it out loud, or silently in your mind, whatever makes you “feel” the gratitude more fully. Go back through your entire day and replay each event so that each one ends positively, and say thank you. If during the day you learned something new, even if it was painful, that is a positive for your life. Learning, even when painful forces you to grow. And just like nature we need to be always growing. When you are not growing, or moving forward, you are dying and moving backwards. Be grateful for every experience you recieve, and then move on. 

     However, you do need to actually feel emotionally grateful for your entire day, adding feelings to your gratitude, cements the experience in your mind. And if you remember, your subconscious mind will have to believe what you consciously tell it. When you can emotionally feel grateful for every experience, everyday, your abundance and satisfaction with life will explode. 

     I should also let you know that how you start your day will dictate how your day will go. Instead of waking up with negative news, email, or doubt and worry, wake up with gratitude. If three minutes of negative news can ruin your day. Just imagine what five minutes of being thankful can do for your day. When you wake up, take a few minutes and just say thank you for whatever comes to mind. Setting your day up with gratitude will drastically improve how your day is experienced. 

     For the next thirty days I  recommend that you write down at least five things you are thankful for everyday. You can do this anytime during the day, when something you see brings a happiness or grateful feeling, write it down. After thirty days you will be blown away at how much abundance there already is, all around you. Start and end your days with gratitude. The more you are able to do this, the faster your life will become consistently happy, as I’ve said a few times… It’s like magic. 

     As you begin to see how much you have to be grateful for everyday, it will make rewriting your life’s history easier. When a challenge hits you in the present day, and then you replay that event in a positive way that evening, you will begin to see new ways of viewing your past in a positive light as well. Practice makes perfect, but you should not force it. Try to make it a fun experience just seeing good in things. Learn to laugh at yourself, life and the driver who just cut you off.

     Spend some time practicing rewriting your past and see what happens. Once you start changing your history to a positive, grateful one, it will begin forcing your future to be more of the same. If your life has always been about positivity, you can expect your future will be good as well. Happiness follows happiness, and maybe even better, abundance follows happiness too.

Do you pray? Meditate? Ask the universe for signs?

Ask, Believe, Receive

     Do you believe that God, Source intelligence, the universe here’s your thoughts? Do you pray, and are your prayers answered regularly? Do you ever ask the universe for something and get an answer? I talk to the universe everyday and I almost always have a question or request that needs to be addressed. However have you ever asked for something in prayer or meditation, received the answer but missed it, or you didn’t take action when you were given the answer? 

     This morning while going through my morning gratitude and motivational routine, I asked the universe to let me make someone happy today. It’s a request I ask many days, because making someone else smile, makes me smile. Might sound selfish, but why not make two people happy with just one act of kindness. Anyway, I asked, and I believed that an answer would show up because the source always comes through with an answer. Not always the answer you’re looking for, but you will definitely get a response if you’re paying attention. Today I had a simple request, and when the opportunity arrived, I didn’t take action. 

     Here’s what happened; I live near the ocean and on my way to the office I like to drive by the beach and see the sunrise. This morning as I near a crosswalk a couple steps up to the street loaded with chairs and other beach supplies. As I begin to slow down, they hesitate. I then step on the gas and they retreat to the sidewalk. 

     This was my first opportunity to make someone smile and I blew it. I should have stopped and let them cross. Their arms were filled, I was comfortably sitting in my truck and there was no good reason to speed up. As I passed the couple, seeing exasperation on their faces, I realized that this was an answer to my request and I totally messed it up. Ask, believe, receive worked perfectly and then I didn’t take action. Poop! 

    When the universe gives you exactly what you ask for, you should probably gratefully accept the gift, and immediately positively act on it. Once you send out a request to your God, or just to the universe you have to immediately begin looking for clues to the answer, and believe that your request will come true. The universe will always respond to your requests. Maybe not exactly as you intended it to happen, but you will get an answer to your prayer. 

     I assumed I would not have an opportunity to make someone smile until after I got to the office, I wasn’t paying attention, and the answer came as I was daydreaming. Reinforcing the fact that I need to keep my eyes open at all times because the universe has my back, and will always reply. 

     As I  immediately caught my faux pas, I first laughed at my missed opportunity, realizing my request had just been granted and I totally missed it, SORRY! I then apologized for missing the opportunity that I had asked for. I also said thank you for providing me an opportunity to make someone smile, answering my request. I promised to catch it the next time when it comes again, making sure to ask for the experience again. The universe doesn’t know what you want, if you don’t ask. 

     I don’t know exactly what I call it when I talk to source intelligence, or God, or ??. Many people I know would say I’m praying to God. However it’s more of a conversation with the universe for me. I spend a minute or two focusing on my breathing and heart beating, then I just start thinking in a conversational way to something greater than me??? I always begin with gratitude, trying to actually have feelings associated with my thanks. “thank you for my body working for me all night, thank you for the sunshine, thank you for my shower”. I try to spend two minutes at least being thankful for my life and the good day I am going to have. Then if I have a request, and who doesn’t? I gratefully ask for my desire. I have some huge desires that I know won’t happen overnight, and I have some small requests like finding a penny, a feather, or the opportunity to make someone smile. The smaller stuff is almost always answered the same day or within 24 hours. My bigger requests obviously take longer to appear, however when I pay attention, I get clear signs that steps are being taken behind the scenes to bring my dreams to reality. It’s pretty cool when the universe or God responds, and you see your dreams taking shape every day. 

     I know we all have our own beliefs and see spirituality in our own ways. I know that from my life experiences that prayer, meditation with the universe, or talking with source intelligence provides answers to our lives. If you don’t believe or care about spirituality then think about this. Quantum physics is proving that we are all connected by an unknown energy source. Aristotle, Plato, Buhda, Mohammed, Jesus Christ and others have all spoken about thoughts, or prayers, creating things when you believe. So just maybe there is something going on beyond our comprehension. 

     I don’t have all the answers, however I know some crazy things that many of you would call miracles, have happened, and continue to happen in my life. Maybe it’s just some unexplainable synchronicity, however I believe it is something bigger than us. Something we can’t control, yet we can work with. This energy that holds us together will partner with you, and work with you to create your perfectly happy and abundant life.    

     You simply need to keep your eyes and ears open, your heart and mind focused, and the answers you seek will show up in some of the most unexpected ways. Ask, Believe, Receive it works every time. Your job is to ask, and believe an answer will come. Then be patient, open minded, and ready to receive, and act. Then you will see miracles everyday too. ✌️ 💚 😁

Life Lessons from a Tomato plant.

Scraggly, yet so alive

     How do you face your day? Do you shrink in fear every morning when the alarm clock goes off. “Oh my god, another day, it’s going to suck, oh just ten more minutes of sleep, I can’t face life yet.” Or do you hop out of bed using no alarm clock because you are so pumped that every day is Christmas morning and you can’t wait to face the day? Or maybe you’re in between those two extremes. We all have our own way of facing life. There is no one size fits all in the game of life. There are really no rules at all. Life can be whatever you want to make it. 

     Sounds far out crazy, right? Only those goofy happy thought people and crazy religious folks believe that nonsense. Like most of you I am somewhere in between extremes. I am not a crazy happy person, but I am happy. I am not crazy religious but I am spiritual. I also believe that nature has an answer for all of our problems. You have to be willing to slow down and observe. When you start observing your natural surroundings you will begin to see life in a slower, more flowing way. 

     If you are one of my religious friends whether you are Christian, Hebrew, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, or anything in between, your religious doctrines bottom line says that you need to face adversity head on, fearless, with total faith in a positive outcome. If the first outcome is less than you expected, you are to know with absolute confidence that you will eventually succeed in your desires. Your beliefs dictate how you must face the day. Your choice is to face the day in anticipation of what god throws your way, knowing that everything is a learning experience, and everything will work out in the end. . 

     To my non-religious friends, you wake up everyday and face whatever the world brings your way. Whether you believe it or not, you are facing your fears. You have no choice. Life still comes at you no matter what. You cannot hide from it. The choice you have to make is how you face the day. It is your job to know with absolute confidence, that whatever comes your way will be a learning experience, and you must learn the lesson, or repeat it until you do. 

     I want to share a story with you about my Miracle Tomatoes. Florida is a challenging environment for tomato plants. Especially on my little patio. In the winter, the best climate for tomatoes, I only receive 2-4 hours of sunlight a day. Tomatoes need at least 6 – 8 hours for optimal growth. The summer, when I receive the required 6 – 8 hours of sunlight, Florida’s heat and humidity soars (not ideal tomato weather). The aphids, spider mites appear in droves looking for plants to devour. It rains, sometimes torrential downpours every day. This is not making the tomatoes happy. 

     With all of these challenges facing me, I wake up one day in the fall, and another day in the spring, yes twice a year, and I go and plant my tomatoes. Every year my tomatoes provide a bounty of fruit. Yes I fertilize and diligently care for them. But I also acknowledge the greater power, how amazing the plants are. I say, or sometimes just think, “wow, thank you for some amazing plants. Thanks for my Miracle Tomatoes.” I am grateful for the plants and the fruits they will provide. 

     Seriously, look at the pictures this poor plant has had, mites, blight, aphids, white fly, worms, too much water, and now heat and humidity. Look how little it is hanging on to life with. Yet, look at all the tomatoes it is still providing. This is my 4th harvest from this plant. It just keeps facing adversity and succeeding. It can’t get up and move like you. Nope, the miracle plant just adapts and pushes on regardless of what life throws at it. I will tell you a fact. This is how all my tomatoes grow. Scraggly and yet full of life. 

     My life has never been perfect. You might even call it scraggly and without purpose. Today I am still scraggly, but everyday I wake up knowing that my health is great, I will learn something new during the day. I will be grateful for many things throughout the day. I will try to do something to make a dream (or goal) of mine come closer to fruition. I know that I might get punched in the face and fall down. But I am certain that when I get back up, and I will get back up, that I will be stronger for learning what not to do. 

     If your life is feeling kind of scraggly, and you’re not seeing a straight path ahead of you. I suggest you take some quiet time in nature and just allow answers to come to you. When you allow the universe, or god to just flow through nature and through you, the answers will just show up . Don’t fight it. You should just simply let the answers flow to you. 

     Just like the miracle tomatoes, who do nothing but push forward in an extremely negative environment, and yet are succeeding beyond my expectations. You too can push through your environment and succeed beyond your current beliefs. You simply need to relax and let life show you the way. You obviously need to steer the ship, as it were. You need to be vocal about your desires, dreams, and wishes (goals). Let the world know what you really want. Then let it happen. Sounds really easy, and it is fairly simple in theory. So don’t get discouraged if you don’t feel immediate success with allowing the flow to guide you. Keep “not” trying, and the answers will come. 

     Life will never be perfect. If you take the cue from nature, from my pear tomatoes, nothing in nature, including us is perfect. The trick is for you to realize that what life is giving you is the opportunity to find more perfection. Realizing that in reality, everything that happens to you is an opportunity for growth. Face life’s adversity head on, fearless and confident in your ability to not just survive, but to thrive.
