The Importance of FRUIT

Eat a variety of fruit everyday. 2 – 4 cups a day would be perfect.

   I am getting close to the editing portion of releasing my book – – THE HAPPINESS EFFECT – – A self help book explaining why our current synthetic and processed food and medicine is killing us, how fruit, vegetables, and herbs work with our body naturally creating zero unwanted, unnatural side effects, and positive momentum. You can eat the healthiest food everyday and you can still be unhappy and unhealthy, why? Because if you are not being grateful, and living with positive intention, you will never be balanced. The way I approach life is that you must:

  • Get your body right, 
  • To get your mind right, 
  • To keep your life right.

FRUIT

     Fruit is probably my favorite, go to food for snacks, and for their health benefits. I love my veggies and herbs because they are very balancing and touch all three Life Centers. However fruit generally contains more protein than herbs, is high in fiber, and natural sugar. Fruit also has some heavy antioxidants, and high vitamin and mineral content per serving, and they are obviously sweeter than herbs, or vegetables. Fruit is my sugar snack substitute. You will notice however, that just like vegetables and herbs, fruit will also improve all three Life Centers.    

     The purple colored fruit are overflowing with antioxidant properties making them a source for anti-cancer benefits. Science is proving that purple fruit and vegetables are amazing at controlling free radicals (Zombie cells) giving your body a complete package for cancer prevention. You should eat some purple fruit or vegetables every day. 

     What is an Antioxidant, you ask? Great question. The simple answer is:  “Antioxidants are molecules that attack free radicals.” A free radical (Zombie cell) is a molecule that is unstable, or deformed (think cancer). This deformed molecule can then attack other good cells. These deformed molecules not only attack cells, but they can transform good cells into free radicals causing a chain reaction that leads to cancer and eventually death. 

     When you think of free radicals, visualize a zombie. A zombie can attack and kill you, and they can attack and transform you into another zombie. Free radicals do the same thing. Attack and kill, or attack and conquer. Either way you and your cells lose. 

     So if you don’t want to become a zombie and die of cancer, you might want to start eating some fruit. Especially the purple and red varieties. As I mentioned earlier, you should eat a purple fruit every day. Purple and red fruit also contain phytonutrients called Anthocyanins. These little fellows really attack the free radicals and are found in large quantities in red and purple foods. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying: “Eat a purple fruit everyday and this will keep your cancer away”. Maybe it was a saying about apples? I think you get the idea. You need fruit in your diet every day. 

     Let us begin with one of my favorite fruits that some people say is a vegetable, and it is actually both a fruit and a vegetable. Do you know what it is? Yep, a tomato. The confusion comes from the description of fruit. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica; “Tomatoes are fruits that are considered vegetables by nutritionists. Botanically, a fruit is a ripened flower ovary and contains seeds. Tomatoes, plums, zucchinis, and melons are all edible fruits.”

I am listing tomatoes in my fruit section. I mix tomatoes into my fruit smoothie. So to me, they are a fruit. You may call them whatever you like, just include them in your diet. Amazing health benefits!

  1. Tomatoes: (Solanum lycopersicum) 

      Lycopene is the standout nutrient in tomatoes. Lycopene is a strong antioxidant and tomatoes have a lot of it. It is said that eating tomatoes will prevent cancer. I’ve also heard a celebrity chef state that a combination of tomatoes and olive oil eaten weekly could prevent many forms of cancer.     

     There is also a good amount of vitamin A, B6, C, K, and beta-carotene, magnesium, potassium, iron, and calcium. Tomatoes only contain 10mg of sodium and 2.7mg of sugar per four ounce serving. I eat at least five cherry tomatoes most days. They are one of my favorite plants to grow. There is nothing better than going outside to your own garden and grabbing some fresh ripened tomatoes that you grew. Let’s see how they help our three life centers:

      HEAD:  

  • Reduces cognitive impairments
  • Increases memory
  • Helps prevent Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia
  • Improves eyesight

       CHEST:   

  • Aids respiratory system
  • Increases blood circulation 
  • Regulates blood sugar (anti diabetes)
  • Strengthens your heart muscles

       GUT:     

  • Improves digestion
  • Tomatoes have probiotic properties to help regulate bacteria in your stomach
  • Improves liver and kidney functions 

     Tomatoes have been around for thousands of years. It seems that the Aztec nation was the first to cultivate them around 500 AD. From Central America they traveled to Spain and Italy and eventually became a staple food for many cultures. 

Garden Hack:

     If you grow your own tomatoes you can taste the amazing flavor of fresh picked tomatoes. Pick your fruit in the morning. There is a noticeable difference in the flavor of a morning harvested fruit, versus afternoon or evening harvested fruit. The morning harvested tomatoes will have a sweeter flavor, I guarantee it. GRATITUDE CREATES HAPPINESS

Without Gratitude There is no Happiness 

     Last week I wrote about your pendulum of life, and how our lives are always changing and will always move through good and challenging times. Our  job is to pull ourselves up over the negative swing, knowing that something better will come along soon. The good we desire must come back to us because change is always happening, and everything has an opposite; good – bad, happy – sad etc.  This is a universal law, the law of duality. If you experience challenges in your life, be confident that it won’t last forever, life has to give you the opposite as well.    

     You can create a positive outcome faster by always seeing the positive side of all experiences. The more positive vibes you can create, the longer the pendulum of life will stay on the good swing. Yes, it can be hard to accomplish total control of our negative emotions. But it can be done, and it gets easier the longer you practice. 

     There is one simple trick that you can use to help bring your pendulum of life back from the negative side of the swing. You can speed up the downswing so that the good begins happening faster. How can I do that you ask? By being grateful, and showing gratitude to others. You can not be negative, and grateful at the same time, it simply cannot be done. Part of being happy and successful in this life is being thankful. Being grateful for everything you have, and everything you want to have, with NO strings attached. 

     A great way to wake up and start your day with gratitude is to; tell your body and mind “THANK YOU.” While you slept last night, your mind kept you breathing. Your mind kept your heart beating and blood flowing. Your liver transferred out toxins that you picked up during the day. Your kidneys processed waste. Your stomach turned food into energy, your mind was allowed to wander and be free. Your body made sure you would wake up healthier than when you went to sleep. You are a NEW YOU EVERY SINGLE DAY. No matter what happened in your life yesterday, while you were sleeping, your mind subconsciously created a new you. You need to stop for a second and do a happy dance!! That is some awesome news, and something to be grateful for every day! 

     I am not a doctor, I don’t know everything the body does in a scientific way. I just know some basic common sense stuff. I know that all of those amazing things and many more took place while you slept. While you were asleep, your subconscious mind was still working for you. Your mind and body made you a better person overnight. You did absolutely nothing but fall asleep. If for no other reason, you have to be thankful for that amazing blessing from the universe. You get a better life, a better body and all that is asked in return from you, is that you are grateful, and of course, sleep once a day. That is really cool. 

     That is a great reason to be happy! You are in total control. When you are thankful and grateful for what you have, the universe responds with more of what you’re thankful for. It’s so simple. 

     For instance, if you are grateful for being able to pay your bills, you will be able to pay your bills. Not just pay them, but you will have a little money left over. When you begin to be thankful for the money left over after paying the bills, even if it is only fifty cents, your prosperity will also increase. You need to be truly emotionally grateful then watch what happens.That simple shift from being grateful for having enough, to being grateful for having MORE than enough, will begin to change your life to a life of abundance and of dreams coming true. 

     All you have to do is become emotionally grateful for the abundance you already have. You will begin to see the abundance of food in your refrigerator you didn’t see before. You will see the abundance of clothing you already have, and you will see that you always have money left over. All you have to do is be grateful for the abundance you already have. 

     You can either become a glass half full person (Happy) or a glass half empty person (negative). The choice is all yours. You can choose to see that left over fifty cents as an abundant windfall, because you have money left over after all of your bills are paid. You can choose to gratefully celebrate your good fortune! Or, you can be ungrateful and disappointed that you only have fifty cents. It is your choice how you want to live. You have the ability to change how you see your life. 

     You need to decide if you want to be happy and grateful, or sad and disappointed. The key really is so simple. 

Show gratitude for everything you have today, and for everything you want to receive tomorrow.
